Ihedioha laments state of Imo

Emeka Ihedioha

Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and 2015 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in  Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha,  has berated the Governor Rochas Okorocha administration for the poor development of the state.

Ihedioha spoke at  a lecture entitled “The Role of the Political Class in Realising the Collective Dreams of Justice, Equity, Fairness and Financial Accountability in Imo State”, at the 2017 Diocesan Synod of the Diocese on the Lake, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) St Mary’s Magdalene Parish Oguta on Monday.

He said  Imo had  the highest Gross Domestic Product  in the South-East, saying  it does not  impact on the living standard of the people in the  state.

Ihedioha said, “I need to remind us that the attainment of justice, equity, fairness and accountability in Imo State will remain elusive so far as our constitution the very instrument of our federation is applied in breach and until the legislature indisputably oversights the executives for necessary checks and balances while the judiciary interprets the law without fear and favour.”

He  said  the political class in the  state should not  intimated to abandon its sacred responsibility of holding government to account.

The Niger Delta As A Microcosm Of Nigeria | Eugene Abels | TEDxPortHarcourt

Despite being abundant in human and natural resources, violence and decline in development prevail in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. In this talk, Eugene Abels invites us to stop pointing fingers at governments, unite and reflect on our history and also, to change our thought patterns, attitudes and habits in order to create the community/nation we want.

A deliberate Change Agent and technocrat committed to international best practices who has in three decades traversed the Real, Banking and Public Sectors of the Nigerian Economy, Eugene Irefa Abels was born, bred and schooled in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He hails from two oil producing Communities, Nembe and Finima and believes that they are a microcosm of the Niger Delta Region.

An exponent of the need to exorcise our Colonial past from the souls of our public servants and elected officials, he believes the art of governance has been reduced to the single person pronoun ‘I’ whereas ‘we the people’ holds no relevance.
