As a sign of its commitment to supporting education, Maersk
Nigeria Limited has shown support for the State Nursery and Primary School,
Arakan Barracks, Apapa, Lagos by donating 1,000 exercise books to the students.
Also, staff members of the firm taught students in primaries
4 to 6 various subjects including English Language, Social Studies, Mathematics
and French.
A statement quoted the Human Resources Manager of Maersk
Nigeria, Ada Onyeri, as saying that the teaching exercise was part of the
company’s Corporate Social Responsibility in the celebration of the 2017
International Women’s Day.
She said, “For us, it is an opportunity to give back to the
society. State Nursery and Primary School has been our adopted school; we have
had a number of CSR activities here. We have built some school blocks and
donated equipment, among others.
“But this is done in commemoration of this year’s
International Women’s Day. Some of the
female colleagues in our organisation supported by our men have come to use
this occasion to teach the little ones and inspire them to be like us in
future.”
The Head Teacher of the school, Dr. Louis Onukwufor, was
quoted as saying that the firm had been very supportive of the school over the
years.
He said, “In December 2014, they gave us 10 computers and
accessories and during our last School Inter-House Sports Competition, they
gave us other gifts. They also built four blocks of classroom in 2014 and
refurbished our library.
“We want the staff members to tell the company that we
appreciate them so much. We love what they are doing for us and wish that they
continue to do more for us,” she said.
