Kidnappers in Kano city now use commercial tricycles to
abduct unsuspecting passengers, investigation by Northern City News has
revealed.
A victim who narrowly escaped abduction, Musa Danbaba, said he boarded a tricycle on France Road,
saying that no sooner had the vehicle taken off than he lost his memory.
He said he observed the operator conveying him towards Igbo
Road, adding that he raised the alarm which the rider ignored.
“As the tricycle operator was speeding away to an unknown
destination, I summoned courage and jumped out and collapsed, but I
subsequently regained consciousness and headed to my destination,” Danbaba
stated.
Another passenger claimed she had to alight from a tricycle
when she noticed the unusual demeanor of the operator.
The Kano State
Chairman of Tricycle Operators Association, Sani Kwari, confirmed the
fresh cases of kidnapping involving tricycle operators in the state.
He however said that
his association had notified the police about the development.
Kwara disowned the perpetrators, saying they were not
members of his association.
He stated that all his union members were registered with
identification numbers issued by the Kano Road Transport Agency.
He however warned passengers against boarding tricycles
operating outside designed parks.
He said, “The dubious unregistered tricycle operators who
are not our members carry out their illicit duties when our genuine members
must have closed for the day mostly at unholy hours of the night.”
