Oil thieves arrested in Delta

The Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested three suspected oil thieves in connection with an illegally refined 2,400 litres of fake petroleum products discovered in Ughelli forest.

Confirming the incident, the State Commandant, Mrs. Beatrice Irabor, told journalists in Asaba on Saturday that men and officers of her command acted on a tip-off to uncover a location where illegal products were being refined.

She said a warehouse located around Owankwa forest in Okwagbe community, Ughelli South, was discovered to be managed by a group of persons.

According to her, three members of the group have been arrested and are being investigated.

Irabor said the suspects would be prosecuted at the end of the investigation if they were found culpable.

“The suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation. We are warning those involved in illegal oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism to desist from such acts or be ready to face the wrath of the law whenever they are caught,” she added.

It was gathered that NSCDC operatives led by Inspector Odega Godwin, stormed the thick forest where they discovered the illegal warehouse.
