Five months after a kidney patient from Adamawa State, Isa
Hamma, was hospitalised at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, another donor from
Kano State, on Saturday, opted to donate one of his kidneys to Isa.
One of Isa’s kidney had been removed in error by a doctor at
a private hospital in Yola, Adamawa State about eight months ago, which led to
his illness.
Previous attempts to replace his organ with kidneys donated
by some of Isa’s female relatives were not successful because they were not
compatible. The transplant was said to have been further delayed by Isa’s male
relatives’ refusal to donate their kidneys.
However, a fresh donor, identified as Inuwa Isiyaku from
Kano State, offered one his kidneys to Isa on Saturday, if it would eventually
match.
The Good Samaritan, who hails from Yakansari in Dawakin
Local Government Area, said he was touched by a recent documentary of Isa’s
ordeal, which informed his decision to voluntarily donate one of his kidneys to
him.
Isiyaku said he was convinced about giving his kidney to
save Isa from suffering.
“I am ready to donate one of my two kidneys to Isa for the
sake of God. I will inform my parents, who I believe will not object to my
willingness to donate my kidney. I am ready to live the rest of my life, with
one kidney, as doctors have confirmed that one can survive with one kidney.”
He further stated that he would soon visit the hospital to
undergo the necessary test and that if his kidney matched that of Isa’s, he
would be willing to make the sacrifice.
