Immigration develops software to monitor officers

The Nigeria Immigration Service said it had developed software to track officials of the agency and check against corrupt practices.

The Comptroller General of the NIS, Mohammed Babandede, who made the revelation, urged the men and officers of the agency to report the fraudulent activities of their colleagues to the management for appropriate disciplinary actions.

Babandede spoke while addressing the officials during a visit to the Lagos State Command of the NIS in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

He said, “We will ensure you get your promotion as and when due.  Those of you that are due for promotion, we have sent your list. This is the first time we are doing that. What we did in the past was to ask officers, who had spent a certain number of years in service, to forward their names.

“What normally happens is that some officers go through the criminal network in the service and in the board and include their names when they are not qualified. This is cheating. We have found some of you involved in that. I am not going to dismiss you; I will give you a reduction in rank. You will be wearing that uniform so that people will see you.

“If you have a complaint with the list already posted, submit the complaint officially through your comptrollers. In case you don’t see your name or you see the name of any of those people who have added their names but they are not qualified, send it to us, we are going to do our best.

“Promotion will also be based on attitude. We have already developed software that will enable me to have access to your file. Wherever I am, I will check your file and profile with ease. If you are an officer that had been caught for an offence, I will see it and you won’t be promoted.”

He said the NIS was committed to the welfare of the officers and would continue to ensure they got their promotion as and when due.

Babandede, while asking the officers to be disciplined, said the agency would flush out those working against the interest of the government.
