Four people
reportedly lost their lives while several others were injured during a rival cult group clash
in Ondo town, Ondo State on Sunday night.
It was gathered that the clash was a reprisal by a rival
cult group in the town as the group had lost four members during a clash on
Friday.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the clash was
between Afee Cult and the Eiye confraternity groups.
A source in the town narrated that the four cultists killed
on Friday were members of the Afee cult group.
“The Afee cult members regrouped on Sunday night and
attacked the Eiye confraternity group. “The cultists threw the community into
serious confusion as they moved from one street to the other in search of
members of the Eiye confraternity group. In the process, they killed four
members of the Eiye confraternity group,” the source said.
The source added that there were sporadic gunshots in Yaba, Odojomu, Enuowa, Idi Ishin and Surulere
areas of the town.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police
Command, Mr. Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident, said 10 persons had been
arrested in connection with the incident.
The PPRO said none of his men were among the victims of the
clash. He stated that the command had commenced investigation into the
killings.
“It was a clear cult clash and we have started investigation
into the incident but normalcy has returned to the town while our men have been
deployed in strategic places within the town, “ Joseph said.
