After a joint participation of over 500 youths from various universities, youth groups and local government areas, they all came to an observation that:

1. The twin challenges of youth in the state are ignorance and poverty.
2. That the education system in the state lacks enough deliverables.
3. That youth are not playing their proper roles in the society.
4. That youth are still allowing themselves to be used as thugs during elections.
5. That students are still engaging in drug abuse
6. That elected representatives are not engaging constituents in consultations to be abreast of their challenges.
7. That imposition of candidates on the electorate is a major hindrance to development and democracy.
8. That the youths lack job opportunities.
9. That scholarship must be given on merit to those who cannot afford fees.
10. That those in privileged positions are amassing the commonwealth to the detriment of the society.
11. That the youth and students are disadvantaged in policy formulation and implementation.

They also made some recommendations which are as follows:

1. That there is need for the youth to get it right now in order to make the desired impact on the state.
2. That there should be a declaration of a campaign against ignorance and poverty.
3. That the youth must make electoral choices for the growth and development of the state.
4. That the youth must shun drug abuse and get the best education possible while scholarships should be awarded on merit.
5. That they should shun all inducements in electing the best candidates during elections.
6. That Legislators must hold consultations with their constituents on the way forward as part of a bottom-top approach to the issue of development.
7. That the issue of imposition of candidates must be stopped.
8. That government must provide adequate opportunities for the youths.
9. Youths must be uncompromising in exterminating the negative effects of poor leadership in the state.
10. Students must use their population to lead a revolution to right the wrongs in the education system.
11. That the youth must also learn to be self reliant.
With its pioneering status as the oil haven in Nigeria and the efficient contribution to the attraction of multinational oil exploration and production companies with the attendant huge petrodollars to the country; we should have gotten a fair share of the developmental infrastructure which these natural resources have brought to other parts of the country.

“Today, Bayelsa East contributes about 40 percent of our state oil revenues whereas the physical infrastructure and industrial development does not add up to the unassailable contributions. What we have witnessed over the last 40 years is palpable decline in both human capital and infrastructure development. For instance, the last time land reclamation in our major coastal cities like Nembe, Oloibiri, Brass and many others was executed was in 1983 when our own son Chief Melford Okilo of blessed memory was in the saddle as the Governor of the Old Rivers State.

“The population of Bayelsa East was 494,699 by the 2006 National Population Census but now estimated at 661,000 by the current population growth rate of 3 percent per annum.

“On a quick infrastructure audit, the Bayelsa East Senatorial District does not have any tangible Federal presence in terms of functional industry that is capable of providing jobs for our able bodied young men and women. With its auspicious position as the pace setter in the oil exploration and production activities, it should not have been out of place to see a refinery, LNG or other major oil and gas investments in the area but to no avail. Instead ‘Oloibiri the epicenter’ is a neglected and forgotten historical site.

“This disastrous and unwelcome scenario has agitated the minds of Bayelsa Easterners to call for an articulate and insightful representation and leadership at the National Assembly to scramble and make a compelling case for viable opportunities for our people.

“Our vision is to put Bayelsa East to work via an inclusive, impactful, resourceful and prosperous representation along five (5) priority pillars:

(1). Attract Strategic Investment Opportunities

(2). Attract Strategic Development Projects

(3). Attract Strategic Contract Opportunities to critical stakeholders

(4). Build Multi-stakeholders coalition to develop skills Development Colleges in the three (3) LGAs

(5). Work with Multi-lateral Financial Institutions and investors to set up the Bayelsa East Microfinance Institution.

“For contributions at the national level, the vision revolves around propagating legislation on a new revenue model for optimizing the country’s public revenues without tolerating lags on disposable incomes of citizens and bottom lines of corporations.

“A number of key enablers and drivers will be required for the implementation of these transformation pillars. They are as follows:

“Set up the Bayelsa East Vision Center (BEVC) with a highly talented individual as the Director General that will oversee the national office in Abuja to collaborate with our National Assembly representatives to position our qualified men and women to be engaged in national institutions by way of choice employments, appointments as well as local and foreign scholarships.

“Mobilize and build coalition amongst our traditional institutions and communities by promoting unity towards lobbying for key strategic investments for the district such as the FID for the Brass LNG, an Oloibiri Refinery and the Nembe-Brass Road plus many other priority development projects.

“Set up branches of the Bayelsa East Vision Center in each of the local government areas that will engage with development partners and multi-lateral agencies to pursue skills enhancement and promote poverty alleviation measures by driving sustainable funding strategy.

“Ensure effective communication and regular stakeholders engagement to appraise performance in order to stimulate the vision.

“To my colleagues, friends and members of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bayelsa State, as I leave you to pursue this dream, I call for understanding on the part of those who may feel offended by my decision as it does not take away our brotherhood and friendship. It is a decision borne out of an unquenchable vision for the good of society and to deepen our democracy. As you know very well as politicians, there are neither permanent enemies nor friends in politics but permanent interest. Therefore, I look forward to alignments where possible for us to give the best to our people and change the narrative in one ACCORD!!!

“God bless Bayelsa East, God bless Bayelsa, God bless Nigeria.

Together, we can do it!”
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5037120763910640207.post-76902890754249195132018-12-06T09:32:00.001+01:002018-12-06T16:26:38.182+01:00Opuala Charles Pledges to attract strategic employment opportunities to Bayelsa East

Opuala Charles

•As he dumps APC for Accord party

A senatorial candidate for Bayelsa East senatorial district of Bayelsa State, Silva Opuala Charles have pledged to attract strategic employment opportunities to the senatorial district, if elected.

Opuala made this known recently in an open letter signed and issued by him on Wednesday.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reported President Muhammadu Buhari to the United Nations (UN) over plots by his Presidency and the All Progressive Congress (APC) to scuttle the conduct of the general elections, particularly the Presidential poll.

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan,The PDP said there is heightened tension tension across the country over the manipulations by the Buhari Presidency, aiding that if the UN and the International community fail to intervene and support a credible, free, and fair election, our nation may witness an electoral stillbirth, capable of triggering violence and humanitarian crisis in Nigeria and the entire Sub Saharan region.

The National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, who led the members of the National Working Committee to receive the special representative of the UN Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel, Mr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, in his office in Abuja on Friday, alerted the UN Security Council that President Buhari is already compromising the military and other security forces as tools to muscle the electoral process.

Secondus also told the UN how the Presidency has annexed Nigeria's electoral body, INEC, and how it has not been able to conduct any credible election for the past three and half years as a result of this situation, He further called for the resignation of the INEC chairman.

"Similarly, our INEC has been annexed by the Buhari Presidency. This is the reason it has not been able to conduct any credible election in the last three and half years. Nigerians have lost confidence that INEC as presently constituted can guarantee credible polls in 2019. We, therefore demand for the resignation of the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and Mrs. Amina Zakari, who is a niece of Mr. President" Secondus said.
