The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday lost three of its
men and two community leaders after some gunmen attacked Oko-Asagun village in
the Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the gunmen also
abducted four workers of two telecommunications companies in the area.
A witness, Jude Ajagun, said those abducted were workers of
TYDACOM Limited and Erickson Limited.
He said, “We were working on a site when we started hearing
continuous gunshots and we scampered to safety. I hid beside some blocks while
watching the scene.
“I saw about six heavily armed men; three were masked. They
saw the three policemen, who were attached to an estate developer and shot them
dead.
“The gunmen,
thereafter, abducted four workers of the telecoms companies and marched
them towards Ode-Omi.”
A telecoms worker, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said
they had been keeping vigils since Wednesday when the incident happened.
He said as of Thursday, the gunmen had yet to establish
contact with the company.
The spokesperson for the state police, ASP Olarinde
Famous-Cole, who confirmed the incident, said the policemen killed were taken
by surprise.
He said measures would be taken to ensure the release of
those held captive.
