50 land documents, jewellery recovered from ex-NSA Muktar

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered 50 Certificates of Occupancy bearing the name of a former National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Abdullahi Mukhtar (retd.), and his wife, Binta.

It was learnt that the documents were recovered from one Akka Danagundi, a brother-in-law to the ex-NSA.

According to the EFCC, the jewellery were found in a fireproof safe hidden in a house belonging to Danagundi at 375 Gwangwazo Quarters in Kano, Kano State.

The commission stated that the discovery was sequel to an intelligence report alleging that huge sums of money, including foreign currencies, were hidden on the premises.

The EFCC said, “During the operation, Aiko Fireproof safe and seven suspects, including the house owner, Danagundi, were arrested and brought to the EFCC’s Kano Zonal Office, where their statements were taken.

“On arriving at the commission’s Kano Zonal Office, the safe was opened and jewellery, such as necklaces and wristwatches, including 50 Certificates of Occupancy for properties located in Kano, Kaduna and Abuja were found.

“The jewellery found include 55 wristwatches, including three gold watches. Also, 37 gold jewellery, weighing 1,907.9g and another 15 pieces of fashion jewellery were found.”

It was learnt that all the suspects arrested during the operation were released on administrative bail with the exception of Danagundi, who is still in custody, assisting the investigation.

Meanwhile, Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf of the FCT High Court, sitting in Maitama, Abuja, has fixed March 16, 2017, for ruling on an application brought by a former NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), seeking to consolidate the two separate charges preferred against him by the EFCC.

Dasuki’s counsel, Ahmed Raji (SAN), while moving the motion told the court that his application, dated February 22, 2017 before the court, seeking to consolidate the two charges – HC/ FCT/CR/42 and HC/ FCT/CR/43 – against his client was brought pursuant to sections 211, 212 and 213 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

Justice Baba-Yusuf, after listening to the arguments of both counsel, adjourned for ruling.

The Niger Delta As A Microcosm Of Nigeria | Eugene Abels | TEDxPortHarcourt

Despite being abundant in human and natural resources, violence and decline in development prevail in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. In this talk, Eugene Abels invites us to stop pointing fingers at governments, unite and reflect on our history and also, to change our thought patterns, attitudes and habits in order to create the community/nation we want.

A deliberate Change Agent and technocrat committed to international best practices who has in three decades traversed the Real, Banking and Public Sectors of the Nigerian Economy, Eugene Irefa Abels was born, bred and schooled in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He hails from two oil producing Communities, Nembe and Finima and believes that they are a microcosm of the Niger Delta Region.

An exponent of the need to exorcise our Colonial past from the souls of our public servants and elected officials, he believes the art of governance has been reduced to the single person pronoun ‘I’ whereas ‘we the people’ holds no relevance.
